Deirdre Angenent

Mezzo-soprano

Deirdre studied in Arnhem in the Netherlands, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in classical singing. She then joined the Dutch National Opera Academy (DNOA) in The Hague/Amsterdam, on a scholarship from the VandenEnde Foundation. She obtained a Master’s Degree summa cum laude in Opera. With a scholarship from the prestigious Huygens Foundation of the Dutch Ministry of Education, she was able to pursue her studies with Ira Siff in New York. She is now mentored by Ira Siff, Nadine Secunde and Peter Nilsson.

In 2014, she won two prizes at the International Vocal Competition’s-Hertogenbosch, in the Netherlands (the Dutch Opera Prize and two Audience Prizes).

In 2015, she was awarded First Prize in the Grand Prix de l’Opéra in Bucharest, the Aalto Theater Prize in Essen, Germany, and also Third Prize in both the Leyla Gencer Competition in Istanbul and the Elizabeth Connell Prize in Sydney.

Recent performances include Sieglinde (Die Walküre- Wagner) in Essen, Gertrud (Hänsel und Gretel) in Nancy, Ismene (Antigona) with Opera Trionfo from the Netherlands, Venus (Tannhäuser) in Seoul, Vitellia (La Clemenza di Tito) on tour in Holland, the Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 at the Festival de la Chaise-Dieu, Strauss’ Vier letzte Lieder at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and in Holland in Judith (Bartok’s Bluebeard’s Castle), Dido (Dido and Aeneas), Venus (Tannhäuser) in Meiningen. She also received a Wagner scholarship from the Dutch Wagner Society and performed Ottavia, La Femme in La voix Humaine, the Wesendonck Lieder, Elijah, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Brahms’ German Requiem, Les Nuits d’Été and St John Passion.

Forthcoming projects include : Judith (Blaubart) in Essen, Der Komponist (Ariadne auf Naxos) in Lausanne and Meiningen.
