Mezzo-soprano

Gemma Ni Bhriain studied under Veronica Dunne at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin and graduated with a BA (with Distinction) in Music Performance in June 2014.

She has sung the roles of Jenny’s daughter (Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, KurtWeill), Fox (The Cunning Little Vixen, Leoš Janáček), Florence Pike (Albert Herring, Benjamin Britten), Sally (A Hand of Bridge, Samuel Barber), Mercedes (Carmen) at the National Concert Hall in Dublin.

She has won the Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition, received the Dame Joan Sutherland Award and the Wil Keune Prize at the Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition.

She sang the solo alto role in Haydn’s Messe Nelson at the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing (China), with the International Schools Choral Music Society.
She then performed with the orchestra of the Hungarian National Opera at the Freedom Opera Gala in Budapest under the baton of Pierre Dumoussaud.
She was the guest soloist with the National Symphony orchestra of Ireland, in the « Young Europeans Concert » at the National Concert Hall, conducted by Jean-Luc Tingaud.

In October 2014, she joined the Atelier Lyrique at the Opéra national de Paris, for two seasons. She took part in several performances at the Opéra Garnier as Diane (Iphigenie en Tauride), Proserpina (Monteverdi’s Orfeo), and with Le Cercle de l’Harmonieled by Jérémie Rhorer, and the String Quartet of the Opéra de Paris orchestra. She sang Dorabella (Così fan tutte) in Paris – Creteil, Alisa (Lucia di Lammermoor) at the Opéra de Paris Bastille, Dorabella in Antibes.

She joined the International Opera Studio at the Opernhaus Zurich, singing roles on stage including Cléone (Médée – Charpentier), Frauenstimme (Orest – Trojahn) and Le Pâtre, La Chatte et L’écureuil (L’Enfant et les sortilèges – Ravel), Ho-Gou (Vent du soir- Offenbach), Die zweite Dame (Die Zauberflöte), Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro), Valletto (L’Incoronazione di Poppea) Ramiro (La Finta Giardiniera).
In September 2018, she sang to acclaim in the role of Nicklausse (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) at the Irish National Opera.

Forthcoming projects include : Songfest (Bernstein) at Paris Radio France, Alisa (Lucia di Lammermoor), Une Prêtresse de Diane/Une Matelote/Une Chasseresse (Hippolyte et Aricie de Rameau) in Zurich, Enrichetta (I Puritani) in Paris-Bastille.
