French mezzo-soprano Sophie Pondjiclis studied at the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique and at the École d’Art Lyrique of the Opéra de Paris.

She won the “Toti dal Monte” International Competition for Opera Singers in Italy.

Sophie Pondjiclis has over 80 roles to her credit, performed on the greatest international opera stages. They cover a wide repertoire ranging from the baroque to the contemporary.

During the first years of her career, she sang La Haine (Armide by Glück) and Javotte (Manon) at La Scala in Milan, Le Tricorne, Mercédès (Carmen), the voice of the mother (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) at the Paris Opera, Olga (Eugene Onegin) at the Grand Théâtre de Geneva, Handel’s Amadigi at the San Carlo in Naples, Le Martyre de Saint Sébastien at the Hamburg Opera, Stravinsky’s Noces at the Théâtre du Châtelet and the Maggio Musicale in Florence, La Mère, La Chatte, L’écureuil, La Bergère, La Tasse chinoise, La Libellule (L’Enfant et les sortilèges) in Berlin, Cologne, Munich, Stockholm, Emilia (Otello) at the Chorégies d’Orange, Adalgisa (Norma) in Beijing.

Her career has been punctuated by Marcellina (Le nozze di Figaro) at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, in Milan, at the Palau de la Musica in Valencia, at the London Barbican Center, in Lausanne, at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, in Marseille, and of course the title role of Carmen (France, Japan, Skopje, Bastia, Biel, Bern, Treviso…).

She has recently appeared in roles such as Madame de Croissy (Dialogues des Carmélites) in Brussels, Hamburg, Seville, Vienna SO, Principessa di Bouillon (Adrienne Lecouvreur) in Saint-Etienne, Amadigi (title role) in Paris.

For the 65th anniversary of the liberation of the Ravensbrück concentration camp, the Théâtre du Châtelet gave her the role of Havas in Germaine Tillon’s “Le Verfügbar aux Enfers”.

Recent and future engagements: Marcellina (Le nozze di Figaro) in Lyon, Mescalina (Le grand Macabre) at the George Enescu Festival, Bucharest, Filipievna (Eugène Onéguine) in Toulouse, Clémence Chouilloux (Philippe Boesmans’ On Purge bébé) in Brussels and Lyon, l’Opinion Publique (Orphée aux enfers) in Lausanne.

Sophie Pondjiclis is a Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres.
