Critics are captivated by Tamara Bounazou’s versatility, praising her for her “sunny” voice and “irresistibly charming” stage presence. A young French lyric soprano, Tamara has not only excelled as a singer but also as an actress, showcasing her remarkable eclecticism through a variety of operatic roles.
A prizewinner in numerous competitions, Tamara Bounazou won the CFPL Prize for Best Newcomer at the Marseille International Singing Competition in 2018 and is also a 4-time winner of the Marmande Singing Competition. The following year, she won the Operetta Prize at the Theater an der Wien as part of the Otto Edelmann Competition.
In 2019, Tamara was spotted taking part in the Young Singers’ Project at the prestigious Salzburg Festival, where she sang Dircé’s Première Suivante (Cherubini’s Médée) conducted by Thomas Hengelbrock and directed by Simon Stone.
In Vienna, at the Schloßteater Schönbrunn, she was Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), the Countess Almaviva in (Le nozze di Figaro) conducted by Christoph Meier and directed by Kateryna Sokolova, and Carolina (Cimarosa’s Il matrimonio Segreto).
The soprano appeared at the Opéra National de Paris (Bastille) in the role of Papagena (Die Zauberflöte). At the Palais Garnier, she played the roles of L’Amour and Clarine (Platée by Rameau) under the baton of Marc Minkowski and directed by Laurent Pelly.
At the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, she sang the role of Susanna in a new production of Le Nozze di Figaro directed by Gilles Rico and conducted by Inaki Encina Oyón. She has also performed the role of Enrichetta (I Puritani) with the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris.
She recently sang the role of Anne Trulove (The Rake’s Progress), conducted by Barbara Hannigan at the Cologne Philharmonie, and the role of Eurydice (Orphée aux Enfers), conducted by Marc Minkowski at the Elbphilharmonie.
Passionate about poetry and the chamber music repertoire, she formed the Duo Moine ou Voyou with her pianist partner Anna Giorgi. These two artists won First Prize at the 2019 Lyon International Chamber Music Competition, as well as the ADAMI Prize, the SACEM Prize, the Bullukian Foundation Prize and the Grandes Ecoles Prize. With a particular taste for creative interpretation, the duo performs regularly in recitals and concerts.
Tamara Bounazou will interpret the role of Iphigénie (Iphigénie en Tauride by Gluck) at the Opéra-Comique in Paris in 2025.
